Project 2: Tectonics
The aim of Project 2: Tectonics was to design a self-isolation structure expressing our personal experiences during this Covid-19 Pandemic. We explored and researched on several materials (timber, steel, tensile fabric etc.) as well as on tectonics, ergonomics and anthropometrics.
My design intention was to create a space for the banal action 'sitting' as 'sitting' can be a very simple and a very complex action expressing different emotions at the same time. I went for a Cubic Design with the theme of 'Interlocking' playing with the different heights and sizes of the sitting spaces. I chose Timber as my primary material.
Project 2 Reflection
In Project 2, I learnt about tectonics as well as ergonomics and anthropometrics and how tectonics and spaces can be used to express different feelings and emotions. I also learnt about the characteristics and behaviors of the different construction materials that exist and was introduced to many specific types of joints and joineries.
